Forbidden City

The Forbidden City was the main Imperial Palace for over 500 years. It was built during the Ming dynasty in the 1400's. It is the most magnificent and complex palace in China and the heart of the ancient imperial government. During these times it was forbidden to enter except on the business of the Emperor. Between the North and South gates, 940 metres apart. Entry may be rationed on some national holidays.
