Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is the largest and most well-preserved royal park in China, about 15 kilometres from the centre of the city. It is recognised as the 'The Museum of Royal Gardens', greatly influencing Chinese horticulture and landscape style with its famous natural views and cultural attractions. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was the home of the imperial family, but was destroyed in 1900 by foreign armies in retaliation for the Boxer Rebellion.
